Who Silverwearpdx really is:
During the 2008 recession, I melted my late mother-in-law’s entire eight place setting of sterling silver flatwear, while taking inexpensive silversmithing classes at a Denver community center. (This eventually included the serving set.)
And I have never looked back. Because a chance to be creative is a rare gift.
In a very competitive field, I keep wondering what I can do that is very different from other artistic silversmiths. A long-time journalist, I seem to thrive on work that is narrative — that tells a simple story. Such as a placid cat watching a comet streak across a blue lapis sky behind him. Or a man using a rope to rescue a T-Rex from a tarry looking mass of hematite.
A piece of jewelry can’t just be beautiful when I am making it. There has to be more. There has to be more for you.
